JDTP Hosts Port Commissioners Luncheon at 15th Annual California Maritime Leadership Symposium
IRVINE, CA - JDTP, represented by Shareholders Alene Taber and Kathryn Casey, hosted the Port Commissioners Luncheon at the 15th Annual California Maritime Leadership Symposium in Sacramento on February 24, 2015. California is home to eleven publicly-owned ports: Los Angeles, Long Beach, Hueneme, Oakland, San Francisco, Stockton, San Diego, West Sacramento, Redwood City, Richmond, and Humboldt Bay. The Port Commissioners met to discuss pressing issues facing the state’s ports, including the California Freight Mobility Plan and greening the maritime transportation system. Jennifer Lucchesi, Executive Director of the California State Lands Commission, delivered the lunch keynote address.
The American Association of Port Authorities estimates that the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles alone handle about 37 percent of all container traffic at water ports in the United States. Their operations are governed by a unique blend of international, federal, state, and maritime law. JDTP has represented ports and port tenants in a variety of complex matters involving air quality, land use, and landlord-tenant issues.
